Would anyone else prefer to see the skill rating disappear?

I don't understand why we are given a skill rating.  I am guessing that over 80% of the players here do not count all of their rounds due to quitting, or choppy swing meters which make the game even more difficult.

Honestly, the rating means absolutely nothing because it can't be accurate when 80% of people only count their "good" rounds--myself included because I play constantly on a choppy swing meter.

I think all we really need is for WGT to post our lowest completed round, and that should be enough to let the community know a player's actual potential.

This is why I recommend an amalgamation of stats to create your skill rating.  TWO employs a similar system where everything you do (GIR, Fairways hit, Putts per hole, Scrambling % and everything else) contributes to your skill ranking in a different way.

You basically are assigned points for your relative performance in quite a few stat categories.  All of those points in those various categories are then totaled to give you your overall skill rating.

That's not to say that system can't be tampered with either, but on the whole it seems to do a better job of getting the right people into the right skill levels.

This is an idea I came up with a couple of weeks ago after playing Call of Duty (lol :D). Each player would get a military rank that would represent their playing, but their rank could move up and down, unlike tiers. These ranks would be based on nine pieces of criterion:

    • Scoring Average
    • Best 9 Hole Round
    • Best 18 Hole Round
    • Best 10 Rounds This Month (average)
    • Match Play Points This Month
    • Career Versus Par
    • Total Ranked Rounds
    • Experience
    • Earnings

There would be seventy-five ranks, ranging from Private to General. Here were the specifications I loosely created for each:

    PRIVATE:

    • max 150.00
    • max 75
    • max 150
    • max 150.00
    • max 0
    • max +40
    • max 2
    • min. 1 week
    • min. $0.00

    GENERAL:

    • min 60.00
    • min 27
    • min 55
    • min 57.00
    • min 75
    • min -1000
    • min. 1000
    • min. 8 months
    • min. $500

Ranks would be updated once a week. What do ya'll think?

I agree to some extent with Nivlac.  I for one played many practiced rounds in 2008 on this game and posted would hit 60 or so shots more than needed for practice and that is reflected in my overall stats.  Such as GIR, putts per hole, scrambling etc.  As we are going into year number three of WGT Beta I would assume they will reset the statistics.

I would personally like to see  rankings based on the course being played.  Additionally I would like to see there be an additional ranking based on winning tournaments.  That would be great.  A Legend tier with Tibbets and Nivlac getting my first two votes.

Would you be court martialed for quitting or would that be an Article 15?

Wow, I didn't even finish my post and Gao puts up this response.  I actually like the thought of ranking within tiers.  This is a superb thought.  We do have some ways of doing this with the awards system, tournament finishes, rankings of stats with a minimum number of rounds required for each tier.  A hundred ranked rounds to establish a rank.  This is a great thought.

    LMAO, very funny, Jim!

In terms of my idea, if you guys like it and think it deserves a test and/or you want to help out I can test it on a few people. Thoughts?

    I guess my point was:

The rating is actually meant to be a scoring average, but ironically it's anything but because so many count ONLY their "good" rounds.   An amalgamation of a skill rating would be fine, but again it would be false because everyone would continue to count their "good" rounds.

My point was: If we are going to have some NUMBER next to our name, make the number actually stand for something that is TRUE and cannot be tampered with.  So my idea of a player's lowest actual round would at least be accurate and portray, at the very least, someone's true potential.

*******To secure A MORE accurate rating as it exists now wgt might add below rule***:

YOU MUST FINISH AT LEAST ONE OUT OF EVERY THREE ROUNDS YOU PLAY, OR ELSE YOUR RATING JUMPS TO 150 AGAIN.

I like that low score idea. Keep everything just like it is but add 2 little numbers next to the average. Best 9 and Best 18.
