I have been debating with some mates on skype as to whether wind affects putting.

    opinions anyone?

The top players mentioned in a thread once that wind does affect putts. For me, I'm still on the fence.

I do feel like it can slow putts a little when hit directly into a high wind.  This seems to be the most prevalent at St Andys and Royal St Georges where you can get 30+ mph winds. Most courses with most winds - negligible affect.

it does seem on long putts with a strong cross wind that it will affect the ball.

maybe 1 inch every 20ft? but also depends on intensity

^^^^ my observation & speculation and is not based on anything else

I was for a long time a skeptic of the "wind factor" but have changed my opinion.

There is without a doubt in my mind an effect caused by the wind.  It is not appreciable except for longer putts but from my experience wind is certainly a factor.

I am basically a Blitz specialist these days and play most of my matches on RSG #1 which has a ~90 ft putt on shot #4.  From playing this hole as many times as I have with high wind conditions, I have noticed an effect caused by the wind.  It is very difficult to quantify the effect that it causes and I haven't tried but I can attest to having to change my speed and direction of putts due to the "wind factor".  I am a grip it and rip it type of player so I don't do a lot of calculations but I'm sure one of you math whizzes could figure out a calculation on the RSG putt or other blitz putts offered.

Shorter putts within 30 feet.. I wouldn't worry too much about the wind... IMO... but others may disagree.

Yes longer than 25 feet in heavy wind it might blow it off course a few cm's and send putt wide, but under 20 feet, i havn't noticed any difference.  But it definitely effects long putts (over 30 feet), like if you had 30 mph wind in your face on a 35 feet putt, it might be worth hitting putt a tiny bit harder, or if its left t right, aim a cm more than you would normaly to compensate it.  But ONLY in HEAVY winds,  higher than 27 mph
