CD, thanks for the kind words.  Speaking of hard pars and St. A, nothing exemplifies it more than #17...when I can escape the Road Hole with a 4 I feel like I've gained a stroke.

Oh how I love that challenge. The par is like a birdie and on those really special occasions, the birdie is like stealing 2. I joined this site for the Road Hole primarily and then the rest of the courses. When I play St A I like to play all 18 holes so I can dream about getting to 17 longer. I watch the wind direction on 1 and 2 with an eye to how 17 will play. 16 has become my good luck charm. I push it to make birdie on 16 to carry the luck to 17.

Did I mention I love playing the Road Hole?   ;-)

    mkg335:
I go to #9 at 8 under.  A helping wind lets me drive to the edge of the green exactly 17 yds from the hole, perfect distance for a pitch with the 64° Cleveland.  As luck would have it, the ball hops into the hole for another eagle and a 10-under 26.

I really enjoyed your description of the 9 hole round at STA; well written. But I must question the choice of using your wedge on that green. I was in a similar position just today, 3 feet closer than you, and I too was about to give the wedge a smack when I noticed the extreme flatness of the green! I decided putting would get me closer that wedging with no back spin, so I tried it and it went in! Just like you, extremely lucky!

    Again, nice post.

sj, thanks very much.  By edge of the green I meant just short of the green, on the fairway...my description left something to be desired.  I should have said, "...just in front of the green."

I've used wedge on #5, knocked one in for eagle yesterday...but I agree, #9 is best putted.

...and congrats on knocking in that long putt for eagle!
