I can understand that I simply add or subtract  the elevation shown when it's only a few feet, but when I see an elevation of 83 feet or 38 feet do i convert the feet to yards?

Example: Oakmont hole # 1 Distance to hole 200 yards down 38 feet - do i calculate 200 yards minus 12.67 yards?

    Thanks for the help

A general rule is add 1 yard to total distance for every 3 feet up, subtract 1 yard from total distance for every 4 feet down. Not fool proof but works pretty well.

general rule, up or down, is 3ft = 1yd .. but for example on Olympic 3 where the fall is 63yds odd, i'll take down 25yds, which is slightly more than 1/3 .. also depends on how u factor in b/spin on approach

What course has a ratio of 83 feet in elevation ? I want to play it . I love Mountain style courses.

Be careful sticking to a simple addition/subtraction on elevation changes, all clubs are not affected the same way. A short, high flight, like that of a wedge, is not going to be as affected by elevation changes as much as a longer iron would be. Picture the angle coming down that the shot arc creates-the steeper the angle, the less the correction.
