Just playing in tournaments only gives you experience points for leveling up, not credits. To win credits in tournaments you have to either place near the top of the leaderboard or win the drawing if it's a sweeps tourney.
Other ways to get credits are to win them in various head to head competitions against others, completing offers, completing surveys or watching videos.
