Okay, I may get chased outta here by players carrying torches and farm tools, but this suggestion is based on real-world conditions. Allow me to explain . . .

I was watching an interview with Tiger Woods after the second round of the PGA tournament at Bethpage a few weeks ago. Tiger described the difficulty in playing the greens by saying they were very different from the day before (rain overnight) and were totally different from one green to the next. He said one green would be sticky, and the next would be slippery, etc.

I thought, "this would be like playing a round where one green was very fast, the next one standard, then tournament, then slow, then fast, etc. A random choice would be made on every hole and would be displayed on the green condition tag during putting. Could be an interesting setting for Skins and Alt Shot games.

I actually really like this idea. Personally, I wouldn't want the full range of speeds. But, being able to play with a range from say 'Very Fast' to 'Championship' would be fun.

I come bearing no torch or farm tools! Very true regarding variable speed greens, even championship courses suffer, especially with the effect of rain and how shaded the greens are (luckily they have great drainage).

I would be happy with this provided there is a reasonable range (say very fast to championship). Too wide a range would be unrealistic (Mr Woods calling a "sticky green" would still be slick for most club golfers).

At least it would make you think about the putt rather than using auto-pilot. I suppose the only caveat would be, it would have to stipulate the speed, not just have random under the green speed - if not its a lottery.
