I have no problem with a "gimme" option in practice rounds. Just like what happens in real life when playing with friends. It does speed up the game and lowers the stress level in friendly games.

The key would be that it does not find its way into a tournament or any other round that counts for average.

Several of you missed two very important points in my OP:

    *  It is an OPTION to turn it on or turn it off

    *  It would only be available if the putt were less than 12"

I was only looking for a way to help speed up the stroke play matches.

I've well seen this, but it's not a question of measure. An allegoric reply to your points is

    * TW has no option to turn it on in strokeplay,

    * it's not available to him at any distance,

    the direct reply being

    * These are Open Championship Courses,

    * We play as Tour Pros on these courses,

    * we play by the Rules as far as possible,

    * there is no gimme in the Rules.

alosso- there are enough differences between this game and real life to accommodate a gimme option in this game as long as it does not come into play in any round that affects average.

We do not "play by the rules as far as possible." We play by the rules to the extent that WGT wants or allows us to. In rounds that do not count officially for average TW CAN concede a putt to someone any time he wants. At any distance. In practice rounds we do not get to stand in one spot and hit the same shot over and over. In practice we do not get to put an unlimited # of clubs in the bag.

We do not have access to a driving range or putting green. We do not have access to the wide range of equipment that is in the real world.

In play that does count we do not have the ability to substitute for individual irons. We can call up some various views for shots but we can't move 360* around the shot. We can't stand directly behind the ball on every shot. We're not allowed to walk up to the apex point of a putt to read the break.

Again, a "gimme" option in practice rounds would make the game better and more friendly if it's restricted to unofficial rounds.

Granted, there are differences, and "Rules at the discretion of WGT" is more precise.

But there has been no move at all by WGT towards this subject, and to see it like I explained maintains the logic of this virtual world.

I don't see them putting any effort into practice rounds(!) where there's hardly a revenue. Which impact would this have, except of taking away XPs for spared shots?

I won't comment on your other proposals to bend the rules which might easily lead to new customer complaints, and the missing practice facilities have been explained ad nauseam by WGT.

Only one thing: The information about our virtual putts beats the pants off the information available on a real green: Precise length+elevation plus the exact power of our putts should guarantee a perfect lag shot at least. Furtheron, the slope indication is from another universe. Do you think Steve Stricker would have misread his penultimate putt at the Ryder Cup by four feet with the WGT grid?

You misread those other points as suggestions to bend the rules. They aren't. They are merely points for showing that this game differs from what goes on in the real world, including the real world of the pros you say we are supposed to be like in this game. Go to any PGA tournament venue on Tuesday or Wednesday and see how well the rules are followed. Even if they are privately betting on the games they play outside of the official tournaments.

I wouldn't expect WGT to respond to this proposal yet, if ever. This proposal was properly put by the OP as a "Product Suggestion" open for discussion. Which is exactly what we are doing. I'm sure the powers that be are reading and waiting to see what direction this takes. If they see a large groundswell of support for it I'm sure they'll seriously consider it..

It's entirely up to them what they do with the proposal. If they see the possibility of more people playing or people playing more games from enjoyment and speedier play they will consider it. After all, that's more equipment sales.  Honestly, it's not a huge issue overall but I do see it as a reasonable suggestion.

I read those as suggestions which bend the rules, not judging the purpose. I can well understand the point of view behind them but I do not agree.

Joe and Jane may play the game on their muni as they like it (I concede putts, too, in casual games) but here I'm pleased to have the rules obeyed as far as possible / with limitations by the company. I understand the existing deviations (except the drops in the rough) but I object to unforced deviations.

While you're invited to suggest at your liking, the realization probability is closely related to the ROI for WGT. Any positive thoughts in that direction?

I'm not knowledgeable on the programming topic enough to even make an informed guess as to how much investment it would take to add the option. Or what kind of financial benefit the company would get from the addition of it.

    Me neither.

The point is, unless they see ROI, they won't spend a dime on it. Healthy financial politics.
