  Why when I switch from 3 wood to driver on fairway I get limited distance?

  As a rule, never use the driver from the fairway unless you like so see the ball roll. The only way you can semi decently use the driver from the fairway is using punch. Use the 3 wood, much better option.

  Not sure if this was aimed at me or the OP. Yes I do, and is possible with a perfect lie, ball sitting up and preferably slightly uphill, but the risks imvolved are too great, but it is possible depending on the loft of your driver. Handicap is up to 4 these days, like my age it keeps going up lol.
