That is the problem with hole in ones on executive courses.  If you happen down to Alabama on the Robert Trent Jones Trail...you will find each of the 7 or 8 facilities has at least 2 championship courses and 1 par 3 course, I can't recall if those were 9 or 18 holes but they ranged from 150 to 250 yards, they were just like the par threes on the courses.  Some of these courses are just a putter and wedge to play, don't even take your bag.  I don't believe I would count an ace on these as a true hole in one.  I have three in real life SP so eat your heart out.

My Grandmother, 1918-2006 RIP, had three also...I can only be proud of a 490 yrd 5 par where I double crossed a T-ball...thought it was OB...it wasn't...hit out of the rough, and with 205 left...the front ground entry was harder than Chinese arithmatic, and I hit my beloved, 1952 eye-o-matic persimmon 4 wood el perfecto and bingo! Eagle. You just never know.

I'm happy to roll with the conversation but it's interesting how we've gone from long drives to holes in one.

Like Sweetie, I've never gotten an ace on a normal hole but I can match her eagle, albeit in a rather more conventional way: I think it was about 500 yards par 5 where I crashed the drive about 280 leaving a 220 yard downhill second shot which I hit with my favourite Titleist 4W Hybrid. Caught it nicely and it flew and stuck fast in the centre of the green leaving about a 20ft flat putt which luckily went in.

If I can start hitting my driver 300+ as standard then I think I should start getting more in the future :)

I just invested in a new driver and the first round out one drive I caught finished up at over 320 yards on the fairway! It caught a bit of a down slope and rolled about 50 yards but I don't care about that.

You said in a later post what your new driver was but you didn't say the loft. Was it a 10.5? I learned something last night in my own quest for a decent driver and I am astounded at what I found.

I was looking at an older Burner (3 yrs) 10.5 and comparing it to a Callaway Fusion 9 degree. While the 10.5 had the loft and was a little more forgiving with the 9.0 the ball jumped off the face like it was shot out of a cannon.

I hit about 35 shots with each one, alternating between them, and came away with the Callaway. I don't know if I will air it out for 300 yards but I have no doubt I'll be close with the roll it gives.

I'm with you in the Happy Camp!   :-)

Funny thing that day is me and my friend got paired up with a couple of other guys.   One of the guys was alternating hitting lefty and then righty (for his tee shots).   It was an amazing thing to see and something I had never seen before.   His tee shots were decent on occasion, but he did make good contact from both sides of the tee box.

When I first started plating golf as a pre-teen many many years ago my parents told me if you play golf you will use our clubs until we are really sure you will stick with it. They were both left handed and I am right handed. So I played golf the first 2 years as a lefty until they bought me my first right handed set. 2 years ago I got my mother's clubs and played on the par 3 both left handed and right handed except I putted right handed. I shot a +2 or 3 right handed but after a 54 on the first nine left handed I put the left handed clubs away and haven't tried since. But about 10 years ago when my dad was still alive we played one round on the par 3 course using the other's clubs. That day I shot a fairly respectable + 12 66 and my dad shot a 70 and that was the first time he had ever played right handed. But he had been a switch hitter playing softball for many years so it did help him some. Thinking about that makes me miss the great times we had playing golf together with my mom and my older brother.

Yes, it was the 10.5, but the aerodynamic head and slightly longer shaft length combine to produce some breathtaking length.

I may try to 9 degree one day but for now, I'm very happy with the 10.5.

Without a doubt the wiser decision. LOL-I fought with my better judgement over the 9.0 knowing full well it's going to cause me a headache occasionally but being a dreamer--well, you know how that works.

See you around the 300 marker.  :-D
