Is there a general guideline on how much club to add when hitting to an elevated green?

Yes, jon. A general rule of thumb is to convert the elevation, shown in feet, to yards by dividing by 3 and adding that. Likewise, hitting downhill you would subtract this. This is a rough guide and there are players that have different methods but doing this will get you close enough to be able to figure out what works for you.

Oakmont #1 is a good example. LOL-hell, the whole course is a good example but using #1 if you play your second shot using the yardage to the pin you will most certainly roll off the end of the green. This would be because there is a 36 foot drop to the green (12 yards.) You need to club down in this case. Hope this helps.GL

and  to add to that,    you have to take into account the clubs and balls you  use,  if for example you  purchased new clubs and are using distance balls,  then  you have to take off more, and visa versa if using the free equipment  with the free balls.    if you have  good spin clubs anbd balls you have to take a little less off  because of the lower roll out .   needless to say  you need an abicus  to figure it out completely,    but   try to recongnize all the factors involved and do your calculations accordingly.
