Does anyone have an insight as to how to play Cabo 18th? I would assume that it is essential to keep the ball on the approach below the hole.

You pretty much nailed it yourself.  The whole key to the hole setting up a reasonable birdie chance from below.  The further right off the tee the better.  I normally aim for the right edge of the fairway, but sometimes will hit it into the sand on purpose to create a better angle into the green.  If you get a favorable wind and slower green speeds you can start thinking about landing it close to the pin w/ the proper spin to have it land as dead as possible for a tapin bird.  Championship greens you're normally satisfied with a 20 footer straight up the hill.

Thanks BIB for including a reasonable expected distance from the pin. I think that's always been my issue on the hole. I try to hit it too close and then it goes past. Putting downhill at the hole misses then I'm 20 feet away anyway.
