Hi, I'm about to get my third wedge and so I'll be dropping my Hybrid. Up until now I've loved the hybrid even though it's just the starter club, as even out of 40/50 rough it will get me 150 yards down the fairway, which often is enough to get me on the green or in wedge range.

So, all of you who use three wedges and drop your hybrid, what do you use to get decent distance out of the rough? I've heard of punched 3 irons I've also heard some say the longest club to use out of rough is a 5 Iron. I'm very interested to hear your opinions.

You can punch a 3 wood if the rough isn't too thick. The best way of course is trial and error until you find what suits your clubs, as they do vary.

As you advance and get better clubs you will find that your irons will play out of the 40/50 rough as well as the hybrid. The top level R11 irons play very well out of the rough with both punch and full shots. You can play your Rapture 3 and 4 irons out of the rough with the punch shot very well. Not a well as the R11 irons but they do quite well. I didn't check what 3 wood you had but I punch mine out of the rough at times, and it does quite well. But it does depend on how good your 3 wood is. The better the club the better it works out of the rough.
