I have a ton of individuals i play other games with. If I could get credit for referrals via a web link vs. an email address. I can post that link in a game forum where I have several other ppl i play with to bring to the site.

You can send invitations to players off-site using the INVITE FRIENDS link on your profile. Each email sent generates a unique confirmation link for each player that you want to invite to the site, so that's why it must be done via email. Posting a single link on a forum would not work for multiple people since each individual would require a unique confirmation ID.
