What do you consider short range?

Well, cpl months ago got used to punching 20-30% rough from distance which helped rather than playing a full iron, thats by the by, but it seems to me played a gd leg and was punching from 70-30yrds within 3ft every time where as I would use full and full bkspin, he was incredibly acuarate everytime and suggested I do it? but distances?

I never used the 56 and 60 degree Z-Satins but I know with full power your 64 degree Z-satin punches to 41 yards and by varying the spin and power you can punch any where from around 25 to 45 yards with it. Just choose punch and see what the distance says for each club and experiment and you will find that getting close with the punch is quite easy.

I use punch with my wedges more often than I use full swing. Using punch in this way is like adding 3 extra wedges to you bag. It is also very useful when you are playing in high winds because the lower flight is not affected by the wind as much.

Me thinks that wedge punches can be used as another set of nominal club distances. Especially top quality wedges and top balls may lead to stop-on-the-dime shots on perfect execution.

Mine tend to roll as the set-up is similar to yours, Z-Satins and Callies / SDs.

I have used punch shots on fairways to great effect.  Good way to bridge distance between wedges.  On my PW is 110 yd the punch is 94 yds and my next wedge is 80 yds which has punch of 68 yds and last wedge is 60yd with punch of 50yd.  This means I am taking close to a full swing most of the time.  Punch is not as affected by the wind.

Yup, with 50 yrd wedge from 25-41 yrds you should be within 3 ft constantly.

I punch from short range all the time.  For example my FULL Cleveland 64 degree goes 60.  Set to punch, it goes 50.

    If I'm 47 yards out, I'm punching.

I use three wedges, but by using both full and punch, it turns them into six wedges.

That's a no brainer for me!
