Hello. Last night I played a match against an amateur level player. I was still at hack level when the game started. I won the game and suddenly my level changed to amateur. I don't understand. I thought only ranked stroke play affected my average. In my previous 4 match play games, my average didn't move. Could someone explain it to me? Thanks

Beating someone from a higher tier in match-play can also help towards moving you up.

So that means that if I somehow beat a pro, I would move to that tier? Sounds a bit extreme.

No, What Courteney is trying to say is, if you beat a higher tier in a Matchplay your average goes down. This might be enough to move you up a tier.

Your average will go down slightly more beating a Pro as a hack than it would beating an amateur.

Maybe a little more specifics might help.

Match Play does not affect your average UNLESS you beat someone in Match Play that is in a higher tier than you are.

The specifics of exactly how much and for how long are a mystery so far as WGT will not disclose the math behind it.

When a player beats someone in match play in a hgher tier their average will drop. IF that dro is sufficient to put them i  higher tier then they are place in the next highest tier.

For example as a Tour Pro I beat a Master when I was close  becoming a Master anyway and I became a Master. A few days back playing as a Master I beat a Legend in Match Play. My average dropped but I still am a Master because I was nowhere near becoming a Tour Master.

The effects of that drop are fading however with time and stroke play rounds played
