  Chipping without spin on sloping greens = roll = lots of roll = F#$% it! get the putter out!

  Got the same thread some months ago.
  Well, I take it apart and learned the lesson.

  There's no rules that avoid chip on greens (real life game too) if you understand how can do it well, as the same way I learned by myself to putt from fringe and fws greens in propitious occasions. Chipping on greens it's a play style not prescribed, so guys the only way to challenge chip during a match play is to birdie before your opponent just the get him some pressure.

  The next time you play real golf ask the club pro to play along and leave your putter in the car and see how that work out for you.

  Someone needs to learn the golf rules. Chip on green it's not forbidden.

  And by the way, tell Phil Mickelson how to chip/flop on PGA golf tour.

  It may bot be forbidden, and yes we've all heard everyone go on like a broken record about Phil that chipped on the green. The difference was, he doesn't  chip every 10 ft  putt  he gets.

  I think it's a load of crap, now yes there are exceptions, ST A's 17, you obviously can't putt through the bunker, if you're on the front of the green with the back pin. I'm sure there are a few others, but chipping cause you can't read a little break on a mid range putt is stupid.

  why all the cry babies about a shot that it well within the rules?

  if folks have difficulty using the chip / punch on greens or prefer not to, then don't use it but don't try and chastise players who choose to play that way and if anyone thinks it's easier than putting, by all means go ahead and see how successful you consistently find the bottom of the cup.

  my best without using the putter on a 9 hole round is 27 on St Andies front 9 and 26 on Bethpage front 9.

  i rarely chip on greens now because as you can see from my putting stats, i can putt....and for what it's worth, any players i've met in a game who use the chip...they've been decent putters too.
