Yes, a ball does have a limit to haw many times you can hit it.  It will be taken out of play once you reach that limit.  You can see if your ball is running low by the little bar next to the ball.  Once it turn red you know the ball will be taken out of play soon.

Any thoughts about having a counter on the ball so we can not have to guess when it will be used up, sort of like putterpal has on it?

Also I mentioned this in another thread but is there a way to put all the free balls that we get for the special WGT promotions into one category?   Since you generally want to quit playing before your ball reverts to the WGT free ball, I end up with all the free gifts sitting in my inventory with a few hits left.  I try to use them up in blitz but it is hard to gauge how many hits are in the ball.

Since most of them are the same level of ball, I think it would be nice if they all were in your inventory in a way that they defaulted to each other.

DB is correct in his explaination. However at pro tier you are using a premium ball that lasts about 120 hits so you will find they do not last that long and the benefits fon shorter tees is negligible  If I were you I would consider using a cheaper ball until you get to Master .If money is no object just ignore my comment.
