I used to use the 20X1-X ball but costs beyond my means so I switched to the 250 credit cally and they are good enough, never tried the max balls, so I would say use the 20X1 ball.

My mainstays since reaching Master tier have been the Srixon balls. They've provide enough consistency, forgiveness, distance, spin, true roll on the greens, durability and value to bring me to the brink of Legend tier. Solid balls, recommended without hesitancy.

I've found in my experiments with the Callaway Tour i(s) - when using 3/4 to full backspin - they are far too unforgiving. Rounds when I've been absolutely dialed in on the ding, the ball performs a step+ above the Srixons. When I'm around the ding but not solidly on it, the Callaways fly wild. It's maddening. Perhaps they are a poor combo with the L79 RocketBladez (which I like a lot)?

I very much enjoy playing the few sleeves of L48 Nike 20XI-X I could justify shelling out the credits for. Simply amazing. Breaking 30 is always on the table with those balls in my bag. With my limited skill set, that's a thrill, let me tell ya.

However, 400 credits is a budget buster for one who has spent not a dime playing this game. But the realization has set in that I will have to play a Nike ball when the tees move back. The superior distance, spin, consistency, and feel they offer will be required given my aptitude for the game is average at best.

I've avoided trying out upper level Nikes for fear I'll like them too much. 8*)

And I simply will not use a MAX ball. They are truly hideous to watch others play them and ridiculously poor value for someone who cannot pay out of pocket for equipment. I understand some folks require the slowww meter and I'm glad WGT made them available, though WGT has rightly been taken to task for overcharging those who truly need the slow meter by reducing durability compared to other balls AND charging through the anterior orifice for the privilege. Though 5 dots of feel would be interesting to experience for a round. Just once. LOL.

I'm playing mostly 10 credit WGT balls these days, banking credits for the day some 2 months from now when I become eligible for the R11 irons and shift to playing the Nikes regularly. Doing so also serves to sharpen my reflexes in anticipation for the lightening fast R11 meter. I don't shoot low with the 10 credit balls, but it's satisfying as hell dinging shots as the meter flies by! And losing the occasional ball costs me just 3.33 credits.

To echo Apex's words of wisdom, choose one primary ball so you become familiar with it's performance.

Give the Cally Legend Z a go once you can get them.  They're damn near as good as the L71 Nike ball but a fair bit cheaper.  They do have slightly lower durability though so at the end of the day the saving may not be great.  The major drawback is you cannot be gifted them so if you play CC tourneys with balls as prizes you won't be able to be given these.  It really is time the pro shop was updated to allow legend stuff to be gifted.

I'm with you 100% there.  They look like they hover over the greens rather than roll, utterly awful things.  I have a sleeve I got free from WGT that I use for CTTH, I'd never dream of using them for real rounds, I'd probably throw up after 5 or 6 holes.

Appreciate the heads-up. I hadn't checked out any of the Legend-only balls.

On the durability front, I tested almost all the balls in the pro shop earlier this year. My research found that 2 dots generally get you 100 hits; 2.5 dots get you about 120 hits.

(I found it interesting, not to mention sloppy on the part of WGT, that durability dots do not always equate with actual ball life. Two examples out of several oddities: the 2.5 dot B-XD gave me 150 hits; the 1.5 dot Tour-SD provided 110 hits.)

If the Callys follow form, WGT provides 60 fewer hits per sleeve with the Legend Z Callys, and a savings of 100 credits. My bleary-eyed brain tells me that's 1/2 a ball more per sleeve compared to the Nike L48 20XI-X. But also 1/2 dot less feel.

I'll definitely give a sleeve of Cally Legend Z a try when I move up. Thanks!
