My mainstays since reaching Master tier have been the Srixon balls. They've provide enough consistency, forgiveness, distance, spin, true roll on the greens, durability and value to bring me to the brink of Legend tier. Solid balls, recommended without hesitancy.
I've found in my experiments with the Callaway Tour i(s) - when using 3/4 to full backspin - they are far too unforgiving. Rounds when I've been absolutely dialed in on the ding, the ball performs a step+ above the Srixons. When I'm around the ding but not solidly on it, the Callaways fly wild. It's maddening. Perhaps they are a poor combo with the L79 RocketBladez (which I like a lot)?
I very much enjoy playing the few sleeves of L48 Nike 20XI-X I could justify shelling out the credits for. Simply amazing. Breaking 30 is always on the table with those balls in my bag. With my limited skill set, that's a thrill, let me tell ya.
However, 400 credits is a budget buster for one who has spent not a dime playing this game. But the realization has set in that I will have to play a Nike ball when the tees move back. The superior distance, spin, consistency, and feel they offer will be required given my aptitude for the game is average at best.
I've avoided trying out upper level Nikes for fear I'll like them too much. 8*)
And I simply will not use a MAX ball. They are truly hideous to watch others play them and ridiculously poor value for someone who cannot pay out of pocket for equipment. I understand some folks require the slowww meter and I'm glad WGT made them available, though WGT has rightly been taken to task for overcharging those who truly need the slow meter by reducing durability compared to other balls AND charging through the anterior orifice for the privilege. Though 5 dots of feel would be interesting to experience for a round. Just once. LOL.
I'm playing mostly 10 credit WGT balls these days, banking credits for the day some 2 months from now when I become eligible for the R11 irons and shift to playing the Nikes regularly. Doing so also serves to sharpen my reflexes in anticipation for the lightening fast R11 meter. I don't shoot low with the 10 credit balls, but it's satisfying as hell dinging shots as the meter flies by! And losing the occasional ball costs me just 3.33 credits.
To echo Apex's words of wisdom, choose one primary ball so you become familiar with it's performance.
