Very nice and informative post there Mainz.

Wanting to grab the Lv 80 Max putter( damn well love), I am now a tad depressed, and worried!

but I really think either the forgiveness on rented clubs is turned up on a free rental weekend or VEM is turned down when using them.

This is a very good point and something I have noticed as well. perhaps it is purely my imagination!

One other thing to note is the short time to assess the club(s) - personally it is hard to thoroughly assess the clubs in a couple of days. I am trying a 3W and in a normal 9 hole round I may use it 3 times max. So for me I put it into practice mode, shorter tees and use it as a driver. In other words, try to use the rented clubs so you will get maximum use out of to fully assess.

Just my opinion, rent it, shoot great rounds. Your mind goes OMG, go ahead and buy it. They start working like crap in a very short time. It has happened to me since day one, have not tried any thing at all this weekend, and don't need to. I have reached my peak on the WGT list of who's who, and never see any improvement in the future. Don't get sucked into buying what won't help you after the rental period. Learn the courses with what you have, save your money for a later day, when the damn game gets figured out. Just another honest comment, nothing meant against the game or anything. Just letting the fools (that I was) hear a little bit of experience talking.

    Renni rant over.

So far, I have rented a few clubs to see how the clubs some friends are using play, rented the Rocketballz L69+ 3wood to see if the added distance over my R11s would be of benefit (and if the medium loft rather than high would be an issue), and wanted to try the high-price Max Master+ putter.

The Rocketballz is ridiculous. As in fun. I wasted a few hours doing practice rounds just to use the 3w to tee off, and playing RSG and SA to see how it would fare with wind. I could get over 280yds out of it (did so several times), and even got it to short up decently enough. Could not get it to stick like my R11s, but I did not expect it to.

The Max putter... wow. As an absolute die-hard avatar movement + "math in my head" player, this was a tough one. I also prefer to putt by using the shortest, but still accurate, swing, as I have a rough time hitting the ding (finger-brain issue for me), so the shorter return is better for me. With the Rossa, for instance, I will often go to the 90ft for a 10ft putt (first avatar movement). I despise the different number of avatar movements for putters with male versus female avatars. I had to switch to a male avatar for the Max (usually female + Rossa for me), as the female avatar had funky divisions. For me, this putter "rides the rails." The Rossa is beautiful, and I love it. But, the Max feels/seems just a bit more "exact, " more precise, and it held really well over longer distances. I can see the benefits when putting on tournament+ greens, where distance via meter accuracy/precision becomes vital. For me, the only time I dropped below the 30ft was to shoot ~3ft or less (first male av-move for 30ft = 6ft, 40ft=8ft, etc). Love the putter, dislike the female avatar movement divisions, and will likely pass on it for now due to the price (and female avatar movement difference).

Two days is far too little time to truly get a feel for clubs IMO. But, the first impressions I have experienced have been pretty valuable. Regular rental fees are a bit high IMO, and without the ability to apply at least the initial 24hr rental fee toward a purchase of the club (within a certain time frame) makes renting more expensive clubs a no-go for me. The Max putter is not something I would have ever considered renting, but now I am looking at possibly purchasing it when I go TM. Or maybe I will wait for another free rental day/weekend once I am a higher level. Free rental weekend has been a blast!

Hogwash. Mine didn't, they work today as good as the day I got them. Did it ever occur to you that with new equipment, ostensibly better than what you were using, that you focused better, paid closer attention and were using better equipment that's supposed to perform better? Then you get them, settle into whatever routine drags your game down and then start thinking this silliness.

    Probably not.

I have no come back YJ, good or bad, maybe I just got burned out. I can't say either way. I was just speaking of what I have seen. I have no desire of getting into any big discussion on this. I will let this one go. Glad your sticks are still working like they promised when you bought them, mine are not.

You're the second one to claim promises were made by WGT as to equipment performance. The other guy backed up on it when I asked what they promised. I wonder how many others think WGT promises stuff with equipment. Interesting.

I'm trying out the full Top R11 full set and the Top Taylormade wedges. It's almost silly how easy the game is with these sticks.

Be a little cautious with free rental stuff.  Last time we had a free rental weekend I tried the 3 ATV wedges and bought them within a couple of hours of doing so.  I couldn't do anything wrong with them, bearing in mind I had no experience with them either.  Even missed ding shots were within a couple of yards of the hole, they were almost unbelievably good to be honest.

And being honest again, the ones I bought are not as good as the ones I rented for free.  They're good, no doubt about it, but nowhere near as forgiving as the rental ones.  I've often read people mentioning how good the meter is with rental gear, this is not really an issue for me as my meter is almost always good, but I really think either the forgiveness on rented clubs is turned up on a free rental weekend or VEM is turned down when using them.

I've rented the R11's before and felt the same way. It's not about less VEM or more forgiveness, it's about how easy it is to stop the ball on long iron shots. I play the L83 G20's and less spin balls because they're much more realistic looking while playing. The R11's and Nikes play unrealistically easy IMO. No pro's can stop the ball like we can. I like what I have just because it looks more real. I can live with the higher scores as long as it look real. I rent the R11's just for laughs. I'd never bother buying them to play full time.
