Just purchased the Nike Covert Driver, the one with 3 lofts at 8.5, 10.5, 12.5.  My dumb question is...how do you know which ones to use? I assume it has something to do with wind conditions and lies.   Upon solving that, I wonder which lofts are best with which courses, if there is such a correlation.   Anyone have ideas?
For equip, I'm choosing to use both of the available lofts as my drivers of choice, along with my RBZ wood. Using them depends on the above questions..

Had this club, I mostly used the 10.5 loft on most all courses, used the 8.5 on windy courses (SA etc.).  Don't think I ever used the 12.5 loft, wind or no wind it was hard to judge.

Reading up on loft selection I came across info on this website. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100731164158AAuE3ra

The summary is this, it appears:
8.5 appears best for lower trajectory shots, with more roll like a wood., seemingly best on links courses such as Kiawah or St. Andrews.
12.5 for higher arcing shots, with less roll and more carry...best if to avoid obvious hazards
10.5 puts this in the middleground.

I started using 8.5 and 10.5 and am seeing a subtle difference already.  Does this make sense?

You have it exactly right. Your challenge is going to be learning how the trajectories interact with the different wind strengths and directions. Then throw spin in the mix and you get more learning. Study up and have fun doing it.  :-)

I'd use the high trajectory 12,5 only and learn to deal with it, if you would ever like to switch to the highest level clubs.
