I'm Pro tier.  From what I've read here, that means an avg. of roughly 72-79.  When I play a 9-hole tourney, the leaderboard is full of other Pros shooting 30-32 at the top.  That's pretty discouraging when I shoot in the seventies, they seem to be able to shoot in the sixties.  Is it just a matter of not having raised their avg enough to advance to TP?  Assuming that I get better, some day I will be in that position??

after a quick look at your stats and equipment it seems you can benefit from improving your short game.  Everybody is different but I would remove the hybrid and get another wedge for a better arsenal on your approach shots.  you can make up for the lost club with wood/long-iron punch shots on long range shots out of the rough.

for some good advice on what to use in different lies around the green check out this thread , I found it very helpful with lots of follow up info.

also depending on how much of a purist you are you can choose to add a putter/club scale if you have not done so already.  some different pictures of what players have done in this thread.

one of the keys to improving (emphasized in the 1st thread) is to take notes for each hole to remember what you used in what situation.  some may consider this too much "work" and takes the fun out of the game... but judging from your post you may be ready to do that.

Pro tier is roughly between 72 and 67 average. Those who shoot significantly lower without tiering up will have the necessary skills from the start - us ordinary mortals will drop up before arriving there.

I have never been in the position to win, except in the CC. One 5th was my best standing. Good thing is that nobody will see your standing once you are below 200th place :)

Had to accept it - not gifted enough, staight one-account player, no tactics of avoidance.

Nevertheless, there is loads of fun trying to play the courses, enjoy the views, achieve the different awards, find friends and have a good laugh with them.

Great post Alosso and sums p my game. I too used to look at the leader boards and shake my head knowing there is no way I an shoot like that. But did that deter me - NO. Just play your own game, have fun and enjoy.

Set yourself goals and try and learn from both the good shots and the bad shots and you will improve.

Like you Alosso, I am not gifted enough and my best finish was a 2nd (a couple of weeks ago) - rising through the ranks I never got close to a top 10 finish lol.

This game has so much more to offer than just winning.................

    HI,

I was in a similar situation.  The way I got out of it was to map all my clubs and use a calculator for figuring distance for putting and rough shots.  When I was playing a more "seat of the pants" game, I struggle a lot with distance, knowing which club to hit.

When I mapped my clubs, I now had a better idea which club would go how far.  I made a chart of all my clubs and how many avatar movements each one has.  Divide this by distance to get yardages per avatar movement.  Do this for all clubs and you will be able to get closer to the distances you want.

For putting, there are threads that describe different methods of calculating distance and how hard to hit putt.

Unfortunately I don't have the specific threads to lead you to, but you should be able to search or maybe someone will have the specific threads.

I didn't want to use the calculator, but doing the math in my head was not working. lol

Search the forums and you will find a lot of very good advice.  Everything I've learned has been through the forum and playing the courses over and over.

Good luck and keep at it.

I quoted alosso 'cause he was first, but alanti also actually answered the question, though I appreciate all of the contributions.  Now I have a better attitude about it all.  Though it seems that the "prodigies" are ever present, I m confident that I will get to that point.

keidan & dacrash:  I appreciate the advice.  BTW, I have read voluminous amounts of turorials and threads in the pursuit of improvement.  And, I have improved, but it took better clubs and balls to help me really get better.

dacrash, I am exactly like you were.  I do the math in my head based upon my experiece in practice mode.  I played a lot of ranked rounds in the beginning, but now spend most of my time practicing.  I stll can't resist a try at a tourney now and then.  I'll shoot 1 under in practice and then play 2 over when it counts.  My game may be ready for notes and charts, but I'm not.  Three things are hurting my game the most; putting, dinging, and chipping around the green.  I've got the putting distances pretty well down, but am still learning how to judge the breaks.  Hitting the ding is getting more frequent and more shots are close enough to hit the fairways and greens.  Missing on puts makes it hard to know just how good or bad I read the line.  Still, it's enough to produce slow but steady improvement.

Thanks again to all.  I learned something from everybody.

Everyone shoots 30 eventually and then u will want a 29 and that will come too.

Just concern urself with ur game and don't worry what others are doing.

If 1,000 people join in with an average of 37 then there will always be 30's at the top and 44's at the bottom, you just don't see those.

As I'm a natural competitor, as are the majority of you, you are probably right.  In my mind, though, I don't really want to be shooting in the 50's.  59-61 type of rounds should be rare, not everyday scores.  It kind of takes away the mental fascade of playing real golf.  So many people complain about realism with shot results, what's real about shooting 60 and under on a regular basis.  I really enjoy the game and of course the graphics are excellent.  I'll just play, enjoy, and get better at whatever pace I can.  Thanks.
