Picture this, hole 13 US Open qualifier,  134 yard par 3, 1 foot down 10 MPH wind blowing straight in to me

I am -9 thinking i am finally going to give the cut line a nudge. My 8 iron goes 137 with full backspin ( i know this as i have hit my clubs up and down BPB 12th, 100 shots each club, with and with out spin so i know how far they go)..... So pull back and ding its on its way....

then WTF my ball goes 147 (which is further then the club distance),  buried at 50-60 sand, try to play a 20 yard flop, goes 4 yards in the bunker, play another 20 yard flop, yay on the green except it has gone 29 yards with full bs, 2 putt and get a 5 and back to -7

i mean if you dont want me to play the US Open, just tell me and stop wasting my time with this bullsh*t trying to make it in

    hi

The hole plays short... I usually hit 121 punch and I add top spin if needed:)

Hi yes thats all well and good, but my point is, "i know how far my clubs go as i have hit it 100 time with and with out spin up and down BPB 12 hole, and this shot i dinged. So if i know how far it goes, and i ding it, how the hell does it go further then the clubs listed distance with no spin , we are not talking 2 or 3 yards, that i could live with, but instead 15+ yards.

like whats the point in doing yardage and practice and all that, that when it comes to the time you need it, WGT just makes it go wherever they want to go, and not where i know it should

re:  " . . .then WTF my ball goes 147 (which is further then the club distance) . . ."

A while back there was a no wind Merion tourney for my tier, and only on a few shots did my clubs perform as usual/expected.  The experience still haunts me a bit. Consequently I don't use my R1 driver much anymore.  With "Wind=None", one drive resulted in a 330 yard flight, and another drive with the R1 landed at 317-- not counting roll yardage. Before playing that tourney I had used the R1 as my regular driver, but since then regard the club as a novelty, absent of anticipated reliability.  I had dinged both shots and the line of flight was true but just the distance unpredictable,

Shortly after the game I found myself shopping drivers again.  I bought the SLDR for the compatable meter speed, but spoiled by the R1's avg 287 distance, I also ended up buying the R11s. (Lots of laughs with R11s's meter speed, so I am getting my buck's worth of entertainment-- sometimes it is fast and the other times it is very fast and other times even faster.  In contrast, I have found the R11s 3 Wood to give me fairly consistently reliable swing meter speeds.),

Also, as for clubs not meeting or exceeding their anticipated or "proven" yardage, I am confident that at least on the Merion course there is programming for them to be eratic from time to time.  I don't believe there is anything "wrong" but just that there is programming either in the course, the club or both.  Subsequent to my experience,  searched forums and I saw some "testing" videos elsewhere in the forums that illustrated the eratic distances/landings of the R1.

Lastly, maybe not worth mentioning, but suffice to say that the experience of seeking a reliable driver has turned me off from entering any pay tournaments.  I just enter the free tourneys now, and not with any expectation of winning, but just like to see how I rank among the other legitimate contenders.

I had a similar problem on NTTH competitions. The 2nd on the IOA Open's a case in point; 199 yards to the pin (elevation 37 feet). Wind's usually 9-11mph toward the hole (11 o'clock as you look at the dial). If I hit my 3 wood hit straight at the pin it bounces 3 times on the fairway, gets on the green - then accelerates uphill (!)  - and "Sally Gunnell"s off the back of the green. I tried a 90% swing; it fell short of the green. I tried the hybrid instead; at 190 yards full shot distance surely it should go over 200 yards? Nope... It grinds to a halt just short of the green. I was close to giving up.

But then by accident, I finally figured out that I could amend the "travel" by playing with the "sweet spot" (on the ball icon at the bottom). For the uninitiated, move the spot on the ball at the bottom of the screen - up for forward spin, down for back spin. Back spin with the wind behind = longer distance in the air (that's the only way one can reach the green on the 9th in the IOA competition) whilst top spin with the wind behind keeps the ball lower - so it doesn't run as far. Whereas in a head wind, back spin stops the ball quicker  - whilst topspin makes it roll further. Anyway... I can now hit greens.

I still fail to see why the ball accelerates UPHILL on the 2nd green on the IOA competition though...  Is that really how Hole 6 at Pebble Beach plays in real life?

I think u should stick to courses you know and have played, like RSG & STA. I have played them both for real , and it helps.

I live near Royal St Georges but mere mortals aren't allowed on it. But I have played at Lydd (which is identical conditions) so links courses I can handle okay. Mind you, the real Lydd course has a hazard not even this game's introduced yet - angry swans on the fairway :)
