WGT, why do you even bother giving clubs (other than putters) a "Shot-Shaping" attribute, if every single club is rated exactly the same???

IMO you should either finish developing this attribute properly, or if you've decided to abandon it, delete it from the graphics.

I agree, in particular because the indication is half a dot. This appears to be incorrect advertizing - should be zero for all clubs.

This is because the "shaping" is nothing more than different(!) reactions on misses of the ding. It's not a feature.

    +1

When I first started playing I would move the dot up for topspin, down for backspin (although technically always backspin) but I could not move it side to side.

There is no shot shaping (as Alosso says, a missed ding either way does not fade or draw the ball). so maybe this is still work in progress. If it is personally I hope it is more realistic than the uneven lies effort (my personal opinion). It would add a new dimension to the game, possibly making it harder.

However if it does happen I hope it also comes with stance and grip adjustments, not just moving a dot - it has always amused me that moving a dot without playing the ball further forward or backwards in the stance can produce more or less spin by having the exact swing plane. Possibly in the too hard basket!

    hi

this is still a planned feature, so the framework is there. I have no news when or if it will be added though.

No need for stance and grip adjustments as those are just the golfer's way of moving the point of impact and the angle of the club face (relative to the radius of the ball) at the point of impact.

One dot won't do it, however, as that just sets the point of impact. Adding a crosshair would allow the player to also change the angle of the club face at impact, thus producing true shot shaping.

The crosshair could either be added at the ball (where the dot is) or incorporated into the ding line.

I suspect the WGT physics operates only vertically with the horizontal component for wind merely added to the landing point, as determined by some formula. If so, they would need to add horizontal physics (which almost all golf simulators do), since side spin tilts the magnus effect.

I suspect if and when this feature comes out it will have the dot capable of moving all over the ball. Just a WAG.

I think all this shot shaping is going to be one hell of a mission for WGT.  When WGT first started in 2008, all it had was starter clubs and balls which itself made the game very tough to master and realistic scores.  Then after a few sponsorship deals came better equipment with better attributes but still using the same  style shot calculator with top spin & backspin only. Players started to get the hang of the new equipment then low scores came along.  WGT tried to implement uneven lies to make game tougher, but still using their initial shot calculator to take shot which only intakes spin on the ball.  To implement shot shaping and fade/draw wgt would have to re program their shot calculator to give us a horizontal ark as well as the vertical ark we get on every shot.  This would probably be a very very big job for WGT, and at present I dont see something as complicated as this coming in pretty soon

It's not that tough. There's an acceleration formula for forward/back and up/down. They need a second one to cover side to side. It's a standard formula pair and used my many golf simulators (such as Tru Golf). The basic formulae can be found all over the web.
