I find I can get the ball close to the pin more consistently by moving the target box to not only allow for wind, but to also allow for break in a green.
The same applies to placing my tee and approach shots in the fairways.
As a basic rule of thumb, I move the aim point 1 foot sideways for each MPH of wind, times 1/100th the distance.
In other words, if I have a 5 mph side wind and the hole is 100 feet away - 5 x 1.00 = 5 feet I move the aim point opposite the direction the wind is blowing.
Another example is a 9 mph cross wind and 82 feet to the hole - 9 x 0.82 = 7.38 feet to move the aim point opposite the direction the wind is blowing.
If the wind is quartering (45°) rather than being straight sideways I multiply the wind by .7. So a 45°, 12 mph wind with 147 yards to the hole is - 12 x .7 x 1.47 = 12.35 feet I move the aim point opposite the direction the wind is blowing.
