    Just came across this scenario.

On green but 24y from pin

    Ridge between me and bole

If I hit ball to 1 inch over ridge it will run for 30y

Played Flop so ball lands softly

    Result mis-hit. Tried again, same.

    Tried Pitch - mis-hit

Tried Chip - worked ( though went 19y passed ).

YES I should not put myself in such a position. But I should be able to play any shot I wish to get me out.

Please explain the logic behind chipping but no flopping on a green

As many times said in these forums before, try 'Full' shot, double the yardage approximately, add or take some off for up/downhill, chipping and pitching usually doesn't work on greens either, maybe you punched by accident.

Either way, try 'full' in such situations.

The first thing I would say to you is that if you are going to get the best possible result from hitting a wedge on the green you probably should consider upgrading your existing wedges.

I can't remember the last time I had to play a wedge off the green but I think it was before they removed the backspin option. However when you could use backspin I always played a punch shot and found it the most effective shot type for the situation.

It's logical to take the shot that gets you in or next to the hole, in other words: you just need to keep practicing with the different shots and getting the power and aim just right then practice some more.

Could you explain the logic behind posting this thread in the Product Suggestions section of the forums?

Sometimes it's better to choose a spot just over the ridge, move your marker there and imagine that the hole is there. Then just let the slope do the rest. This is putting of course.
