What's with the new grid that the player stands in when chipping from off the fairway?
This has completely thrown all direction and distance?
That happens when you play with Uneven Lies. It shows you what the ground is like where your ball is sitting and you have to play it completely different than an even lie.
I didn't have this Uneven Lies until today and it suddenly appeared, can it be deactivated?
Or is this a condition of the game when it is set?
It's a choice when you set the game up. It can also be part of a tournament setup. If it is you will see so on the tournament entry screen. It looks like maybe that CC tournament in your club at Olympic might be on Uneven Lies based on the scores.

I had not experienced uneven lies before and it certainly takes some getting used to.
The problem is that it is in tournament mode with no room for error as it is limited to single round.
