Here are a couple of suggestions I would have for the game. I'm thinking
number 1 would probably be more easy to implement:
1) In real golf you can tee off from any position as long as you are
inside the tee box. You can tee from the far left of the box or
the far right. You can even tee from furthur back in the box or
all the way forward. WGT should allow players to do the same. If
not forward and back at least a choice of teeing off from the left
or right side of the tee box. This would take trees out of play
on several holes, which is exactly what you would do in real golf.
2) In real golf, players off the tee will at times swing harder to get
more distance in certain situations. Depending on the situation they
may be on a par 5 and give themselves a better chance for eagle.
They may also do this from the fairway or especially in deep rough.
One only has to remember some of the swings Tiger Woods takes from
deep rough. They know when they take a harder swing that accuracy
will be more challenging.
What I suggest is that WGT introduce a "turbo" button, if you will, on
the swing meter. What this turbo button would do is unlock the max
border of the swing meter and allow the player to bring the swing meter
out into the "turbo" area. Maybe the turbo area could give you extra
distance on a drive to, let's say, 5 to as much as 20 yards. And perhaps
the swing meter would speed up relative to how much harder a swing you
are taking with a little less margin for error if you miss center. The
player now has a choice, Should I go into turbo for the drive on this par
5 and go for the full 20 yards extra knowing that if I miss center by a
lesser amount I could wind up in the rough or worse or do I just play the
hole normally.
Now I am just using 5-20 yards extra as an example. That night be too
much. maybe it could be 1-15 yards or something. But the accuracy has
to be challenging enough that players would only want to use "turbo" at
certain times and not have it be so easy that players would be usig it
constantly. The same would hold true for shots out of the deep rough
except I would think the amount of yardage gained should be less than off
the tee.
