Looking at wedges to escape the Starters, I have always blindly proposed the lvl 41/42 Pings due to their affordable price (200 crs) and the expectation of some quality close to my "senior" Z Satins (lvl 39, two in the bag and one the inventory).

Today, having a more intense look at the Pings, I discover that their spacing doesn't meet my expectations and there are confusing variations available. Almost the same for the ATVs (495 crs).

Their general characteristics are close. Both have med/high trajectory and a "12 o'clock" meter. Precision (Ping / ATV) is 4 / 3.5, Forgiveness 2 / 2.5, Spin 3 / 3.5 which doesn't justify the higher price at first sight.

BTW, these are probably the best available wedges until level 60 (65.000 XPs to go), except for the (IMHO overpriced) MAX @lvl50 (895 crs!)

These are the yardages (punches from my Satins and other sources in brackets):

    ATV: 50 (41?), 77 (63?), 86, 93, 98, 105 yds

    Ping: 60 (49), 75 (62), 85 (71), 90 (74), 95, 100 yds

My questions are, which are the punch lengths of these clubs?

Which would be good pairings in yardage spacing for two and for three clubs?

Would the level 30 Clevelands (60 / 75 yds) be a good supplement in relation to their price (495 crs)?

    Hoping for some insight!

    Edit: numbers added

    Hi alosso, wie gehts?

I have the Pings in my inventory. The 56 degree punches 74yds, the 60 degree 62yds and the 64 degrees 49 yards.

Any reason why you don't fancy two more of the high level Cleveland CG-16s to go with the one you have already?

    Danke gut und danke sehr!

    Keep the numbers coming!

I'm not asking for myself - there's only one higher level wedge missing to me.

I'm asking with respect of the Pros and TPs looking for advice, trying to see if my standard "buy two short Pings" is perhaps misleading.

    Do/did you play this triple set of 60 - 75 - 90 yds?

Yes I did use the Pings for quite a while until I upgraded to the Clevelands CG-16s and felt they were very good and remarkably forgiving. Arguably the best bargain in the Pro Shop at 200 credits each.

I still use the Ping 56 degree occasionally. If I'm playing a nine hole where the par 5 greens are out of reach with my 3 wood I use it as a fifth wedge between my 56/60 Clevelands and am never disappointed with the results. Not as good obviously, but it really does compare favourably.

Are they better than the ATVs? No idea, but on a tight budget I would argue much better value based on the stats alone.

Thanks a lot - the spacing looks reasonable to fit to a not-so-high iron set. Hope them Pings won't share the fate of my beloved Z-Satins. These were 250 crs IIRC and had a vvg reputation when I upgraded for the first time. They were then replaced by the ATVs, double+ the price and not at all better. Bollox still plays the shortest Z-Satin which says a lot...

For me, the ATV can't be 2.5 times as good as the Pings. Eventually, it comes down to a matter of opinion regarding the spacing. 60 - 75 - 90 may be good below Master, but top guns might prefer 50 - 75 - 100 (e.g. Bollox) or 60 - 80 - 100. For the latter, you need more elevated wedges, Ping or Cleveland.

Just confirming that yes, the level 39 ATV 64 degree goes 50 full - 41 punched.

BTW, I have the upper level ATV 64 degree too, but always go back to carrying the level 39.

Here's a twist on distances.  On paper it makes the most sense to have very evenly spaced (full) distance.  (100-80-60; 100-75-50)  But in going back and forth for several months now, I find in reality carrying a 100-80-50 works best for *me*.
