Usually, I say, wedges first, but I'm gonna break it down from the irons today.

Your choice would be the L85 irons @3595 cr, which - from the numbers - are better than my go-to, Ping i230 L83 @3125 cr.

If the budget calls for less expensive clubs (and leave enough credits for three wedges!), it's important to choose "high trajectory" irons which start at the L59 Ping i230 @2525 cr.

Next, consider to drop the hybrid club in favour of a third wedge, and choose three wedges to fit with good spacing below the PW of the iron set. These have 110 and 115 yds, respectively, in the three sets named before. Standard lengths are 50 - 75 - 100, or 60 - 80 - 100 yds, but I've also seen creative compinations of different lengths. It helps to know that the meter speed is very similar in all wedges. If you want a complete set, make sure that your desired lenghts are included - some sets are not complete!

"Unfortunately", the top Callaway are out of reach, and their spacing doesn't fit at all - 75 - 100 - 115 yds, doubling the PW while leaving too big a gap at the low end. (NB: My  50 yd wedge gives me a full punch at 42!)

A budget solution may be the Taylormade Milled Grind L38-39 @695 cr each (the Max next to them have an unfortunate spacing).

That said, 4,610 crs would buy you a budget selection, and "the sky has no limit" ;o)

    Shadowglash:

Saving up for a set of clubs. Any you'd recommend?

The L85 Callaway irons are very good.  If you have the credits, that's the set of irons I would recommend.

After you get a good set of irons, you don't need the hybrid anymore, so I agree with the suggestion to use 3 wedges (64°, 60°, & 56°).  Selling your hybrid will get you a few more credits.

You already have the 64° MAX Spin. I think that one is worth keeping unless you have credits to burn.  I have what I consider to be the 4 top 64° wedges (L52 MAX Spin, L80 Vokey, L89 TaylorMade, L91 MAX Meter) and find I do about equally well with any of them once I adjust to switching.  Each has plusses and minuses.  There are occasions I'd like to have more spin than the L89 TM or the L91 MAX Meter. I've settled on the L89 TM because I slightly prefer the 50 yard distance, and it has a bit more spin than the MAX Meter.

For a set of 3 wedges a lot of people really like the Vokeys(L76, L78, L80).  There are people who play the set of 3 MAX Spin wedges, but I think I'd suggest getting the 60° and 56° Vokeys to add to your 64° MAX Spin. I've only owned the 64° wedges of those models, but my gut feeling is that I would prefer the 60° & 56° Vokeys over the MAX Spins. You're at a high enough level that you have lots of good options. The L86 56°and L87 60°TaylorMade are available to you now and the L89 64° soon will be. I haven't noticed people using that set as much, but it's the 100-75-50 spacing if you think that's what you might prefer, and they're less expensive than the Vokeys. Again, I've only owned the 64° wedge of that set.
