That was a pretty bad miss for a dinged shot and no wind ...I would be shocked too. If that's within the circle of precision for a dinged  3 wood shot, then the circle of precision needs to be tightened up a little in my opinion.

I find Don that depends on the hole. Some hole are well known for this type of shot to happen.

I'm aware of the holes that have consistent distance deviations Gerald, but I don't think I've experienced any par 3 holes that have consistent left/right deviations... but that's just my experience. On hole #3 on Beth, if I've calculated the distance right and used the correct amount of spin, I'm usually inside 10 feet. Oh .... and dinged it, with the proviso that the ball STARTS towards the aimpoint and then moves with the wind. I don't recall any par 3 hole that I've played where the ball ALWAYS goes right for the stick (or anywhere else for that matter) despite your aim point, but then again, that's what I've seen.

Wow Don...lucky you. :)  I see it all the time. Some here call it the Ding Bug, lol. Plenty times the ball will start straight at flag don't matter the aim.

I'm sure plenty others are seeing this also. I know several players that see this daily. Normally happens on par 3's for sure. Does not happen all the time, but happens way to much for my liking.  Not something that just started either,,,been happening as long as i can remember.

One of the reasons i never do HIO challenges, maybe too because i'm never lucky.

    :)

Oh yes ... I get hit with the Ding Bug occasionaly too ... and like you say, way too much for my liking. But I haven't noticed that it happens on particular par 3's or what have you.

With me, it happens out of the wild blue when I least expect it. It can be any course, any hole, any time, day or night. I should keep records of what club and what holes it happens on, in addition to my score relative to par at the time. I tried a few HIO challenges and never was lucky enough to hole one out. There's only a rare occasion now where I will attempt one.

Yes Don i find it happens more on certain holes.

For instance...#8 Beth black. This hole i find hitting the ding will result in a 20 foot putt most of time. So.....i aim for the wind and miss opposite..= bird...lol

Then if wind is directly behind or against,, i move marker and miss ding on purpose opposite side that i moved marker...=bird again.lol.

#11 RSG's same thing....some others also. I think the long par 3 at Oak. forget which hole.

But like you said way too much for my liking. When you play a no wind tourney you find out right quick how accurate the clubs really are.(Or may i say how much the shot gets messed with) Lots of times when i play no wind tourneys i move marker and miss most of time.

Interesting strategy .... I should try some practice rounds doing the same...

Anyway, I know what you mean about accuracy and no wind tournaments. I played that Celtic Manor no wind tourney a while back using the black Max balls to ensure hitting the ding .... less than a third of dinged shots would go straight towards the hole, but none were off more than about three yards wide as I remember. VEM was merciful .... lol ...

6 or 7 yards wide, like the OP's replay shows, appears to me like a VEMMED shot ...
