Does the wind really have an effect on your ball.  A lot of times I see the wind blowing to one side or the other at 18 or 19 mph, but it doesn't seem to bother my drive at all.

It most certainly does change the flight of the ball as well as the distance. Perhaps you have been allowing for the wind on your drives and thus have not noticed it, but it is there. Some holes it even seems to swirl around and blow almost the opposite direction near the hole as opposed to how it blows at the tee. And when you find a tournament where there is no wind you will really find how true your shots are.

If you have a left to right wind and you hit before the ding, or a right to left wind and you hit after the ding, your ball flight can appear to be unaffected by the wind. This is because either by design or error (missing the ding by accident or on purpose) you can put a certain amount of draw or fade on the ball which will counteract the effect of the wind.
