its not the 2 putt percentage you need to be working on as much.  To get headed in teh right direction you need to fix your 3 putts.  As a start it would be good to flip flop the 1 putt and 3 putt percentages. 1 putt usually equate to birdies and maybe even eagles and bettering your score

As to how you get better at putting, a lot of practice, using forums here and chatting with and playing with players better than you

You can also improve your putting tremendously by improving your "Avg. distance to pin" stat in your Approach and Chipping area. At 28 feet you are making very few first putts and leaving those second putts too far away from the hole.

Get the ball closer to the hole on your approaches and your one- and two-putt statistics will instantly start improving while you eliminate three-putts or worse.

I'm with Srellim. If you master all the possible shots with your wedges your putts will all be tap-ins.

Par is established to allow for 2 putts per green. Two putts per green then is 36 strokes or 1/2 of par on a par 72 golf course.

The quickest way to lower your score average is to make fewer putts.

So a good goal is to average less than 2 putts per hole. As mentioned getting your approach shots closer to the hole helps a great deal, You also don't want missed birdie attempts to finish more than 3 feet from the hole to minimize 3 putting.

I'm happy if I wind up with 25 or fewer putts per round.

Think about the golf truism - "Drive for show. Putt for dough."

Being able to get close by chipping, flopping and pitching around the green will up your 1 putt percentage. It's not all about 1 putt for bird. 1 putt for par is just as important if not more so!

And distance control on the first putt is critical to reducing 3 putts. Work and getting the first putt inside of 3 feet. You do not want 5 to 7 footers to save par. Get consistant inside of 3 feet and the 1 putts will start to drop in the hole.

Totally agree frogdog311......the "short game" is KEY (along with good approach shots) to getting the putting portion of the game improved.

My putting still has a long way to go....I'm just under 40% (avg. 1 putts), but of the 1,800 ranked rounds I've played....I have never used "putter pal" or "the putting target" when I putt.....I read the grid and use my best judgment based on experience putting here on WGT.

What I don't understand....is HOW some WGT members can hit 29's, 30's & 31's on nearly every single 9 hole round - being THAT consistent doesn't seem possible.  Even PGA pros have off days.

The portion about putting I find most difficult is that there are so many "different" green speeds.  I'm ok on Tournament & Slow greens...but, lost on the others.  I don't like the idea that I have to "compute" every putt.  Since I've been putting on Tournament speed greens for over a year now....I don't do any computing....just rely on experience and try to improve every week.
