Thanks everyone. I knew when I decided to quit that it would be hard. It is hard for anyone especially an older person who has smoked most of his life. I tried a few years ago and the biggest problem at that time was the weight gain. I went from 150 pounds to 195 in slight;y over 3 months. And 25 years ago the decision to quit wasn't mine so I didn't really care if I made it or not. Now that it was my decision I feel certain that I will make it. With me right now it is coffee flavored *** candy and A lot of gum.

The hardest time for me is when I am playing here. I had a set routine. Play 6 holes go outside and smoke my pipe. play 6 more and smoke again.

Smoke a bong instead, then you wont care if you miss.

On a lighter note congrats on the non smoking!

Ive smoked on an off since i was 14, when my first daughter was born i quit there and then for 9 years and only started when i went through a messy divorce.

The 2nd time i quit was for 5 years, after my grandmother died from emphysema, through smoking all her life, not a nice way to go, so once again, well done.

I think i'm due another crack at quitting!!

As a reformed smoker (although I am sadly on and off so mostly) I can say that is the habit bit. I think you knew that, and kats advice above on the habit part looks good to me.  What helps me is to also think of the craving as my body cleansing itself.  When I associate that feeling with cleansing as opposed to craving it feels different enough to help much.  I fall down when I go for a beer with some friends every so often, and no I don't mean just over blind lol....

Like Andy said above I also started way young.  Back in '78 the youth centre on a Friday night was smoke filled.  Today people would be horrified at kids in a smoked filled room.  Back then how different things were LOL...

    Good luck:)

Maybe you can try something different.  Continue taking that 6 hole break, but replace the bad habit of going outside and smoking with a good habit ... maybe brushing your teeth or simply gargling with a mouthwash.  When you're done, take that deep breath and enjoy the freshness being a non-smoker provides.

One of my most memorable moments was when my uncle sat me and my two cousins down and told us he was quitting.  He said he was probably going to be irritable for a while, and to please hang in there while he transitioned from being a smoker to becoming a non-smoker.

His thing was first thing he did when he got up in the morning was to go outside and light up a smoke.  So instead of this, I started setting my alarm to be the same as his, and I'd get up and we would take a walk around the block.  He now has this AM walk habit.

It doesn't matter what you do when you take that break (as long as you don't light that pipe) ... just take that break.  It might help with the meter issue.

Again, congratulations Joe!  I'm proud of you for making this lifestyle change!

    Kat ♥

I quit a 10 year cigs habit, about 30 years, when they went to 50 cents per pack, no way I was paying that. I just quit buying them, and my friends got tired of me bumming, so had no choice, but quit,  lol. So not so much will power as me being a tight wad.

About the weight gain, be sure to get your testosterone levels checked. When I started the T-shots my weight dropped off like crazy, from 215 to 175 in a few months. Its also a gr8 way to prevent prostate cancer, but levels have to be checked yearly & adjusted.

Best of luck, never give up

As for your early ding hits, have you tried placing the little swing indicator triangle thingy above and just the right of the ding line and pretending that this is the ding line? This may temporarily "fool" your eyes and your clicking finger to delay slightly and possibly hit the real ding line more, whatever it takes, lord knows i've tried nearly every thing.
