I figure it's about time for the monthly downtime, and was hoping to get a slight heads-up concerning the day/night WGT will be down. It's a lonely night when I get all pumped and primed to play hack, only to find out that "the site will be down in 1 hour for maintenance". There has to be someone who knows the date of the downtime. Just asking and hoping to get an answer, so I'll know what night I can stay in bed. Thanks ;)

i have been here on WGT for almost 3 years , i check the forum  every day , some time 3 or 4 times  ...i always knew when WGT takes a downtime ......some time  and most times  its the same day we know .......and they have this small window coming on  top of the screen  at least    3 to 4 hours before  they have their up dates .....   even for them  its almost impossible to give us a date  , things are handle has they come i think .......        I always make it a point to tell my CC    in our forum , that WGT is closing for the  up dates .....    Not all read and know English ........       or check the WGT forums .......             But  your question is worth  an answer from  WGT staff ......   Frapp

Wouldn't it be cheaper to do these updates in working hours in California? Surely you'd save on overtime payments.

    Actually, no.

At my companies we always scheduled computer upgrades and programming updates for times when it impacted the majority of our customers the least. With a majority of customers coming from the North American. time zones the scheduling as it is makes sense.

If it's a company that operates 24/7, such as this, responsible management calls for the IS department to be staffed 24/7 in some way. Beyond that, employee schedules can be adjusted so that no overtime is required.

Shift work for computer staff is the norm. All back ups and updates are done on the night shift.

    Has always been that way.

    Agreed.

I was a works manager for a water utility company in the UK, a majority of PLC (programmable logic controller) updates that controlled pumps and flow had to be implemented at night, causing as less a disruption as possible to the general public.

    Overtime was a perk!

Not the same as WGT, but not everything can be implemented in the working day regardless of cost!!
