I first starting doing this (missing the ding) when playing heavy wind.  Same idea as the missing the ding putting method on breaking putts.

Now I am trying it on all iron shots and it seems to be getting me closer to the hole.

I simply aim right and miss the ding left.  Or vice versa.  It takes the right side of the golf course out of play.  My draw / pull miss works the ball toward the hole.  Now it is just a matter of judging how much.

For me, taking dead aim and trying to ding shots isn't the percentage play.  After all, it is a game of misses, so why not just allow for your tendency?

I have not noticed any drastic loss of distance or spin doing this.  I use R11s and a Nike ball.

    I welcome your comments.

I have been doing the same on all my shots since 2009 , it started because i got lazy with aiming every little shot and just started missing ding right or left to compensate for wind or break. I have been stuck at Legend since 4/12/12 lol maybe i should aim more lol . I use level 79 rocketbladez and either lethal ball or wgt branded ball.

Yes that is how i play. Dinging shots lately for me equals 20 foot putts.

I always miss the ding opposite of the wind.

Lately i find if aim correctly for wind ball starts directly at hole and then goes with wind.

Especially on Par 3's. Aim for wind on Par 3 and hit ding....equals miss green lol.

    Sad....but true.

I play kinda the same way. I play to protect my mistake. Depending on side wind direction, hitting the ding is either the latest I click or the earliest. Left to right wind hitting the ding is the latest I want to click. A little early helps the shot. Right to left, the ding is as early as I want to click and late is a little better. That way I take out the wrong side of the center line depending on side wind direction. I still move the aimer as if ding is king but it turns out late or early is even better than ding king vs wind direction. My pre-shot routine includes telling myself late or early is the safe spot.

It's called missing smart. Endeavor to ding but never miss on the wrong side of the wind. The ball has quite a bit to do with this, too. Many deviations are exacerbated by using spin and missing the ding so you have to be careful and learn just what you can get away with.

You can learn fairly quickly what works by using the CTTH courses. Equip a WGT ball and aim just by missing, no aimer moving. Then try that with a Callaway and then a Nike. The WGT ball will have the best results.  :-)

My problem is that when I try to miss ding on the "smart" side, I end up hitting the ding lol.

If I try to ding, I usually hit on the "not-so-smart" side.  LOL   jut my luck I guess.
