mantis0014:Question.... 80yrds to pin.... 19 straight Headwind... I would select the 100yrd Cle Wedge, but struggling at how hard to hit it. As I know, those wedges don't have much affect with wind.... Should I use any spin or use the 80 yrd
Under "normal"...lol..circumstances, I'd punch my 100 wedge at 84 yards, and adjust a bit of spin based on the green...and most times, probably just leave it neutral.
The green dictates the spin needed...extreme example on a shot like that you may have would be the back 9 par 5 at Oak...if you punched it into a 19 headwind, hit the ding from 80 yards out, she'll land and roll to the fringe...so use a touch of spin, it'll land short and release and die near the hole.
Contrast that to the same wind on RSG f9 (about the 4th hole maybe?...the dogleg right-ish one, all the humps in the fairway, and traps where the dog leg starts...pretty short hole)...if you add and spin on a punch in there, you get a long putt back up at it, cause of the green slope.
All holes on all courses have the "gotcha" factors.
But Roger, play da punch;)
