Ok, I'm new to WGT and this is my first tournament. I realize kiawah is an easy course and that a lot of players have tons of experience and are using upgraded equipment, but really, the leader posted a 50??

Seems pretty low, am I missing something?

Yes, you are. It doesn't matter what you score in the GolfPac Travel event as it is a random draw. Because of this, WGT have set the tournament up for everyone to play from the same forward tees. This means that the best players are hitting wedges into most of the par 4s which virtually guarantee birdies, and have only mid-irons into the par 5s which therefore yield very good eagle chances. The par 4 3rd is also drivable, so it is not unlikely that someone could shoot a 49 before the tournament finishes.

It's clever advertising if you think about it. We all want to play where the scores will be lowest...

    Speak for yourself.

Many of us play tough courses for the more difficult scoring challenge they present.

A good score at one of the tough US Open/USGA courses is more satisfying than a good score at a course that is easier to score on.

In fact, playing the hard courses probably makes you a better all around player.

Kiawah isn't an easy course on Champ greens I can assure you.
