    gmaster007:
actually it was the Masters, not US Open.

    Stand corrected. Tx.

    fatdan:

I watched a video 1 of the best players on this site made...he removed the flagstick on every shot...problem solved.

    +1

I learned that, too. I've played with one of the best, if not the best, and he removed it on every approach, no matter the distance (and every shot ended inside 3 ft. It took me hitting the hole/flag at Bethpage #9 and shooting out so hard and fast that the ball ended up on # 3 fairway at St Andrews to figure out that the flag stick and ball don't get along at all. Even got the "thump-thump" sound on a shot at Pebble Beach CTTH, but the ball hit the top of the flag stick and ricocheted 200 ft back towards me. I still leave it in, because I never hit what I aim at, anyway. I aim at bunkers, just so I'll miss 'em. I've been saved by the flag stick more than I've been hurt by it. Yes, 500+ ranked rounds and I still don't know what I'm doing. If I knew what I was doing, it might not be as fun, anymore.

Want bring this one to the top...I want to agree and disagree with what's in here.

First off, if you play real golf enough you know the flag is a random event...Sometimes it will hit and go a long way off (Remember flags are not rigid objects, but  have flex to them...I have seen them slingshot a ball

BUT (and that's a big one)...they also sometimes knock a ball down...I've seen a couple drop right next to or into the hole...so we need a bit of randomness in this.

    WGT...any thoughts.

WGT is a virtual world. WGT's programmers can make it close to, but not the same as real life.

Get over it, and don't expect WGT to offer any input in this thread..

Hitting the flag itself is more likely to drop the ball straight down than hitting the stick.  The flagstick gets more rigid going from top to bottom, so a ball hitting the top will rebound less than a ball hitting the middle.  Now as you hit the stick closer to the hole, then flight angle, velocity and proximity to the ground come in play.

I think Tiger wins the Masters if his shot doesnt hit the flagstick and go into the drink, IMO
