I have seen similar questions asked but was not clear on the response. I have a Daytona putter and use the free balls on Tour Pro/very fast greens. I find that I am often just missing putts an inch or two to either side or actually having the ball rim the cup. I am curious if the game mechanics make these putts drop more with better balls. I have seen posters say that balls do not affect putting but I am wondering if the feel or forgiveness makes the minor mistakes/misses drop in more often. If so, what factor should I be looking at? Forgiveness, precision, or feel?

This is not quite true. The only thing which is not affected by balls or putters is the nominal length of the putt. I.e., x % on an y scale will always travel x*y feet.

In difference from the Starter balls, all custom balls will

    a) provide a slower meter, and

    b) have better precision. That is, you will hit or miss the cup more precisely ;)

No better balls won't make more putts fall. Firstly forgiveness and precision are club attributes not ball attributes. Ball attributes are distance, spin, feel and durability. None of those attributes except feel have any affect on putts. And all feel does is slow down the meter making it a little easier to hit the ding.

What causes misses and lips outs are either putts that weren't lined up correctly or were hit too hard or too easily. Putts lined up correctly but hit too hard might not take the break and either miss on the high side or lip out on the high side. Conversely puts lined up correctly but hit too easily might break too much and miss on the low side or lip out on the low side.

Putts I make with Lvl 81+ Nike balls roll further than the putts made from the same place, with the same stoke strength, with the same putter, than using the free starter ball.

I get just as many close but not in, or lip out putts as a starter ball though.
