Level 96 is beginning to show itself on my horizon.  I currently have the L70 Versa, and will be considering this one.  My stats are improving anyway (1 putts recovering still from ripping them apart chasing the L93 R1).  My style of putting is mix n match really.  Short downhillers I will move the aim marker and still miss a little, and same with any shorter breaking putts really. Longer putts I might choose to miss a little also if all I want to do is hole a line.  I also like to make full use of any balance on offer, by often setting my scale long, for short travel back to ding line.

I am particularly interested the thought's of any one who has moved from the L70 Versa to this.  The L96 has been out a while now, and so some will have good time to get well acquainted with it.  Do those that originally thought it excellent still think it is helping?  Personally I would envisage the extra precision may give me a small extra % chance on those flat 20 footers, where I set the scale long, and ding from short travel back. I wonder if the slight extra meter speed may take back in other places any tiny gains though? Any other thoughts?

$40 is a considered purchase.  Thanks in advance for any views.

I have both.  I mainly use the level 96.  But when my timing is an issue, I'll use the level 70 with slower meter for awhile.

I see only a slight difference between the two.  Both in meter and precision.

I was very frustrated with putting regardless of putter used this last week.  I'd drop a 30 footer with break, then miss an almost str8 5 footer.  Even went back to my Ghost I was so frustrated.  (BTW, it was just as bad.  It had nothing to do with the putter.)

Anyway, the upper level Versa does seem to have a slight edge.  Whether or not that edge is worth $40 is debatable.  But, if one wants that slight edge, $40 is what it will cost.  lol

The biggest thing about it for *me* isn't the extra putt here and there dropping.  For me it is that when I miss I know exactly why I missed.  In the long run I feel that helps to get it right.  (Well except for this last week, I had no clue what was what.)

I went from the L70 to the L96 a while ago and was very impressed with the higher level version.  Exactly how much better than the L70 one isn't something I could really say, probably not even 1 shot per round but that would be a guess. It does seem to have almost killed off the dreaded 3 putt for me though, unless I'm hitting a long putt on either slow greens or those mental ones Shoe and Icon throw at us now and then.

I move the marker to aim my putts and find missed dings have a drastic effect on how far the ball goes, I've left several putts short because of this.  The L70 one wasn't really any better though, it was just a bit easier to hit the ding so it happened less frequently.

As bluzgolf already mentioned, it's a question of whether that slight edge is worth it.  Just be aware it will be a very slight one.

I'm also a bit of a gear freak though and not having the putter with the most dots wasn't really an option.  It's exactly because of that that I'm duffing 15 tee shots per hole on the par 3 course trying to reach level 97 as soon as I can.  I'd reckoned on about 2.5 months to get the 90 odd thousand I needed but after hearing about this par 3 trick I think 2 weeks will be nearer the mark.  Only about 36,000 to go now, 3-4 days with any luck.

You too?  I had a nightmare on Merion's greens yesterday.  Several putts went against the indicated break, even when both front and rear view and putting and pitch view agreed which way the slope was.

Not even my $40 toy could help me there.

    Thanks guys.

This time I will force myself to wait for a free rental or at least sensible rental rates before I buy.

I am as bad as any one for new toys, but this time I will dig in at least that much:)
