I was playing in a tournament and proceeding nicely, (something like par, eagle, birdie, birdie, par) then I got to the next hole and missed the meter hitting my long approach shot too far to the left and landing in the mulch up against a tree. No angle to hit the ball anywhere as it was pretty much embedded in the tree.

When I hit it it bounced of the trunk and stayed in the mulch.

In golf the choice would be to play the ball from where it was (which was impossible) or call it 'unplayable' and incur a penalty stroke. WGT doesn't give any options. You just have to withdraw from the tournament or if its UP restart the whole thing.

I would like to suggest that in such circumstances a player could go to the menu and select unplayable shot and the player could then play the shot from a default playable position (two club-lengths from the spot) incurring the penalty stroke.

I think thats a GREAT idea. I too was in that mulch on the Ocean Course under very simular circumstances. 4 attempts later, I was out on the fairway. Not the green, out on the fairway. If I knew I could take have taken an unplayable lie, I would have taken that gladly.

    PRStevenson:
    WGT doesn't give any options.
This is their doctrine (weakened by the new Mulligan feature).

Imagine the hustle to program all legal dropping options into the game, including mapping at every place through the green.

    Don't expect any change.

It wouldn't conform to real life rules but they could let you declare a ball unplayable and take the previous shot again from the same location.  Basically a mulligan but with the last shot counting and a penalty stroke as well.  Stroke and distance is possibly a bit harsh but it would make you think twice about declaring a ball unplayable too quickly.

Since mulligans are already in the game this should be easy to implement.  And could also be used in other situations, CCC #11 for instance after hitting in the water and getting a drop behind a tree the other side of the pond.  In that situation I know I'd happily accept a stroke and distance penalty instead.

It could be seen as a hassle or an improvement depends on the way you look at it? It would take a bit of time to program but it doesn't have to to be rolled out in one go. Just regular updates while they map and add more drop locations.

Sounds like a good alternative and would be quicker but would probably be disliked by many players who want something that follows the rules of real golf.

This is where the problems start - time is money, programmers' time is big money. At least this is a detail which works fine - no reason to betterworsen it.

They will have seen in the beginning which immense effort it would take and they found an acceptable workaround in omitting all options.

Today, there seems not to be much spare money for such projects. There are no new avatars, there's little improvement in long-time faults. I think it's reasonable not to expect (dropping) options now.

True, yet we keep posting and keep hoping :)

I have abandoned all hope, and I don't believe in any promises.

The game is as it is - period.
