Better said as a way to combat quitters..........and maybe legitimatize the good and decent players here as true gentlepeople:
Hi all,
I have a suggestion that may (or may not) go a bit towards reducing the number of disconnects of those who've just made bad shots or otherwise quit a game due to ignorance of WGT game etiquette.
When I'm playing a game (90 second clock just because I prefer it) I like to check out the other players profiles to see what equipment they have, and how their statistics match up against mine. In doing so, I've found that a lot of the players in a random ranked game don't spend a lot of time maintaining their profile; I see that they have a lot of complaints on their wall that warns other people that they are a "frikken quitter" and such comments, and either they don't watch their profile page, or they don't care what is put there for all to see.
What I'd like to see is some method of passage by way of testing them on their knowledge of what is expected of them before they 'graduate' from the 'Amateur' ranks to the 'Pro's'. I'm sure there are online services that will allow you to configure an exam that quizzes candidates knowledge on the etiquette of The World Golf Tour, and on achieving a passing grade on such exam (and a few credits thrown in as an incentive), a player will be 'allowed' to turn Pro (and no, you can't purchase your way to the Pros).
My feeling is that if someone's profile shows that they are a quitter, they also don't pay a lot of attention to their profile page; also, in chatting with those players, I've found that they also don't participate very much in the forums, so they probably aren't even aware of the problems that they are causing dedicated players.......
Maybe in the spirit of the WGT community, we could use this thread to come up with a few exam question.....true/false, multiple guess, essay answers (judged by volunteer Tour Legends?).....whatever turns a crank.....
To start:
Question 1:
When you inadvertently (or otherwise) close a window with no intention of resuming your participation in a game, about how much time does the rest of the foursome have to wait until they can continue playing?
A) Ten seconds
B) Zero seconds
C) Five minutes
D) Depends on their memory cache
E) All of the above
D) None of the above
E) Other: ________________
F) Doesn't matter, I don't give a crap
Question 2:
If you're not happy with the performance of the contents of your bag, what is the best way to improve your game?
A) Ask questions in the WGT forums where you'll find a wealth of experienced players willing to help you improve
B) On a real golf course
C) While playing a game and asking questions of someone who is beating you somehow.....
D) It's a stupid game involving a lot of luck, nothing will help you actually improve
Question 3:
True of False?
It doesn't offend anybody when I click on the little 'X' on the top right corner of the game client.
Question 4:
Describe in 100 words or less what you expect to get out of playing World Golf Tour (including finding Sasquatch on BPB).
These are off the top of my head. (Might as well be, not much else there......)
Anybody have any other questions they think that would be suitable for the World Golf Tour amateur who wants to advance to the WGT Pro's, and beyond? I know that at the time that I was nearing the Pro ranks, I would have jumped at the chance to show that I learned WGT appropriate behaviour and was willing to let the system judge me as an acceptable participant.
Whaddya think? Is it too "letting the inmates run the asylum" for you?
See you out there........and thanks for reading this far......
