After playing a round of golf.  is it possible for a player who has shot over par on his round.  to wait for the timer to disqualify him and NOT get penalised on his average, specially tour pros ???

First if a player has reached the saturation point for their tier then a bad round does not hurt their average.

After a round? if the last putt has been sunk the the round is over, history. Not sure how you could be dq'ed by the timer after the round.

If you "crash out" of the game before you have finished a round (i.e. before you sink that 2 inch putt), you will not be credited with a (complete) ranked round. Therefore your score will not count & all that you have done is used up a ball.

NOTE: The above is for a "Ranked round" (like a monthly tournament) not a match round. There may be a few "purists out there who have never done this - but I do not consider it cheating.  Neither is "crashing out" and "restarting" a game when you are playing for score.

Just dont crash out of a multiplayer game when it is your shot. It locks the game up for everyone.

then why did a player quit during his round (timed out)  and at the end of the round . the board states he won with a score of 9 shots. ???

Nothing but a wee flaw, and of no relevance at all when you left the game: There is no record of his score or win, other than the finalizing scores which will be in the history.

And, "protecting the average" is futile.

When we play ranked stroke play rounds with other players we're simply playing concurrently on the course together. The game doesn't keep any record of winning or losing these rounds. The game just records a completed ranked stroke play round for each player involved. I know at the end it says one beat the other but it doesn't matter. If you completed the round then you get credit for the completion regardless of the other player(s) finishing.  IMO... that's winning.

Also, playing these type rounds with friends from your friends list or other members of your Country Club instead of pick up games from the lobby insures a much higher completion rate.
