I thought I knew the difference, but now I am not so sure.

I used to allow 6 or so yards extra if I was this rough and had straggly bits of grass growing upwards, whereas a regular 30-40 with no straggly bits I maybe allowed 2 yards extra.

But there is also some 30-40 out there which is nearly as bad as 40-50.

Any tips on recognising the different 30-40's

Sorry can't remember which courses have all these types of rough.

I have no problem judging the 40-50 on all types of shot.

    Thanks in advance

    hi

no rough plays the same... few things to consider... how far to the hole. is it down or uphill? wind? do you need to carry certain # of yardages. I used to do +8-10 with full bs but that's only inside 150 yards.. anything longer could play +15-20 yards... there is no specific formula, just notes and experience :)
