Recently i read some posts with content referring to "Doing it the right way". There must be an approach to this game that involves strategy, practicality, and imagination in some effective mixture. Can some of you very successful veterans of this game post some ideas or strategies that you employed, that yield the best results, without a player wasting time moving laterally, or worse going backwards. I have recently started all over with a new identity, with hopes of playing this game more economically, and at the same time becoming an even better player, having even more fun than the first time around. Any experiences you Pro's share with us newer players are sure to help us think and act in ways that will improve our abilities, which in the end will fill the ranks with more competitive players. Thanks for your time and your help!!!

For competitiveness, there's not much more to point out than investment of time and/or money, and practice.

As a poly-user veteran yourself, you might want to tell us which goals you have here, which results you're aiming at.

    Also, why didn't you continue?

For me  it was to play the game exactly as you would IRL. Learn what your clubs can do and then play to them. You don't need the biggest and the best, you need smarts. It helped me tremendously that I never owned a 3W until I made Legend. 4 wedges and a driver from any tee up to Legend is all you need. It forces you to learn shots and play smart. By the time you get to Legend you'll be fearless.  :-)

If you don't care about having a shot at eagle on every par 5 and there is not a par 3 that requires a 3 wood shot to reach you can go with 4 wedges and a driver even as a legend.Especially if you have either the R11 iron set or  the new Forged Nike iron set. That 225 3 iron makes a big difference.

Shoot last week I even did the stupid forgot to change back from my CTTH club set-up and played a tourney on Whistler with 5 wedges and my iron set and was even par until # 18 and bogeyed it to end up with a +1 73. Not bad from the legend tees @ Whistler without a driver or 3 wood.

Thanks for the reply Alosso.                                                                                                                 I understand the importance of practice, and i'm willing to put in the time required to hone my skills. As far as investing credits, would you say the top end equipment should make a significant difference in my scores? Is it worth all the credits for better clubs?                       My goal is to have fun, and i do, but i need to produce scores commensurate with my tier. How fast should i hope to climb up the tiers?                                                                                   And, i restarted to try things differently, regain anonymity, and rather than create a C.C. with very little member communication or involvement, i hope to join a C.C. focused on having alot of fun. I was only a level 35 amateur, and i was way too competitive.Starting over with a new identity and focusing on fun is just what i needed. Now i have to get my average score down to a point where i'm comfortable standing alongside my opponents.         Thanks for your time Alloso

Playing for free is good for noobs but not in the long term. The company deserve their revenue for a good game!

Better clubs will better your scores and support tier advancement. Most of all they will add to the fun! by more precision, sharper aiming and longer shots. It will make you more competitive, too!

To avoid unnecessary expenses, don't start buying too early. There are a bunch of threads on this subject. A reluctant player might start with two short wedges at level 39 or 42.

Looking back, the game's challenge becomes serious from Master tier. So, at that point you might want to have quality woods and irons of level 50+. That said, it's unfunny to be advanced to a tier at low level, unable to get the proper equipment.

You definitely need to know your clubs, and knowing when, if, and how to use them effectively for each shot type they are available for. Having a good idea of how far each clubs hits the ball in the air before it lands and rolls, doesn't roll. With the shorter clubs and wedges the ball may back up after landing.

You have to know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em

In other words you have to know when it is and isn't appropriate to attempt a shot that has a low % chance of being successful.

Drive for show. Putt for dough

Hitting greens in regulation (GIR) is more important than hitting fairways - as long as you don't hit tee shots into the deep rough. On many courses the first cut of rough does not hinder your GIR all that much. The exception is USGA, US Open courses - because they are set up with deeper than normal rough that extracts a penalty if you miss one of their also narrower than for regular tournament play fairways.

    Use whatever aids are legal

    A calculator.

Mental or written tee, fairway, rough, and green notes.

Shot Pal & Putter Pal  (WGT or  VGG Caddy)

Using the Chip/Pitch shot mode green grid as an approach shot wind compensation aiming aid, and putt break reading and aiming aid once you are on the green.

Using Windows Task Manger's CPU Performance display for timing your swing down stroke to help make the swing meter smoother.

    Use Task Manager to advantage

Using the Pitch/Chip shot mode - putting green grid.

Chug one every time I got better than a double bogey?
