And the ball life amount is listed on the pro shop screen that describes the ball attributes. The ball life attribute is Durability.
The highest Durability rating is 2.5 which = 120 hits per ball.
From older forum posts showing charts of ball life (see below) it looks like:
Durability rating 1.0 = 90 hits
Durability rating 1.5 = it depends on the make/model of ball and is either 95 or 100 hits
Durability rating 2.0 = it depends on the make/model of ball and is either 100 or 125 hit
In normal play putts are not counted as hits.
In Practice mode play if you select the Mulligan option, ball life is reduced by 2 hits per stroke including Mulligan putts. Regular Practice mode putts also do not count as hits, just the Mulligan putts.
Yesterday you shot a 37 for 9 holes on St. Andrews. Putts you made on the green didn't reduce your ball's life. We can't see how many of those 37 strokes were putts but as an example lets say you had a total of 17 putts.
In that example the ball life would be reduced by 20 hits for those 9 holes.

* Putts do not count as hits & are not
included, except putts from the fringe.
** Calculated based on 21 hits per 9-hole round
(par 36 with 67% green-in-regulation).
There are a few empty fields and the new Nike
balls aren't listed, but I can atest to the accuracy of the statistics.
As you can see, dots of durability as provided
by WGT can be a bit inaccurate.
