I have thought up the following equation. Comments are welcome.....

    1. go to your stats and find you Par 3 ave (P3), par 4 ave (P4) and par 5 ave (P5).

    2. calculate (P3x4)+(P4x10)+(P5x4)= true average for standard 72 holes course with 4 par 3's, 10par 4's and 4 par 5's..

    does this make sense?

As long as you take the total from #2 and divide by 18 (rounds played).

No...because now that WGT keep stats for the best of 3's, 4's and 5's, plus the stats go back to when you first started...it's still skewed...

Suggest you just copy and paste into excel your last 200 rounds (or whatever shows in your history), take out the par 3, 4 and 5 and CTTH courses...spread sheet it and get a real figure.

Sounds reasonable - my result is just a tad below 72 (my WGT average (Legend, saturated) is 67.71).

We better forget that the Par average of the courses is well below 72, and that Par3 and Par5 courses will be in this number - that's only additional salt to the wounds.

The priority argument will be that all scores from the first Hack round are counted in, thus it's related to my current performance like the length average of any step that I have taken from my baby days.

Just another stats which is true but 100% meaningless.

    (No pun intended)

Thinking about this ... an 18 hole par 3 is a par 54 ... an 18 hole par 5 is 90 ... add the two together (144) and divide by 2, you get the par 4 value (72).

    Right, but you'd never know how many Par 54, 70, 71, 72, 90 courses I have played...

Fortunately it's useless like most if not all WGT stats.

When thinking of a "real" average the first question would be, "which kind of average do we want to see?" There's some chance that it should be a one-tier average, but I'm not going into more detail.

I like the idea of a handicap index ... hmmmm ... that's a great idea!  lol.

I think it makes sense and have used that formula in the past.

For me it works out to:

    2.61x4 = 10.44 + 4.09x4 = 16.36 + 3.40x10 = 34.00 which adds up to a true avg of 60.80, which looks about right.

Interesting enough to have a go at:

TL ave before saturation (from memory) = 59.65.

Total history ave using the calc mentioned above = 59.64

Recent flat lies ave = 55.35

Recent flat lies ave excluding US Women's Open Event = 55.73

Recent uneven lies ave = 58.17

Recent uneven lies ave excluding Nation Uneven at Pinehurst = 58.33

All rounds single play once the Nation UEL and USWO are stripped out, with no withdrawals.
