I just played a 3-hole online match in which my opponent disconnected after two-holes, and I went ahead and finished the final hole, while was # 15 at St. Andrews.
I drove my tee ball into the rough on the left into a 20-25% lie, hit my second short of the green on fairway, hit a lob wedge to 3 yards, barely missed the first putt (10 inches past), and holed the 10-incher. 5 strokes, right?
The game scored it as a 6...double bogey! Not a big deal, since it was just practice, but I wouldn't have believed that the game could actually miscount strokes if I hadn't seen it with my own two eyes. I recounted strokes three times in my head just to make sure, but it was easy to recall it; it had just happened, and there was nothing unusual.
Has anyone else experienced this?
