    Been playing pool for 40 years. In the UK we wouldn't use 'english' to mean a type of spin applied to the ball though.

    Why 'english', what's the origin of it?

    This derives from German.

    Here we say, "Schief ist englisch, und englisch ist modern."
    = "Askew is English, and English is fashionable."

    Which is an even more curious expression alosso, do you know the origin of this?

    Had one of those yesterday. Pin out, the ball dropped straight in and out of the cup and went off the green. Saved in replay 'in and out'.

    Is this the natural progression from uneven lies?
