    [quote="BolloxInBruges"]

edit -  example, you can barely even tell a difference between green and fringe at bethpage.

Another example on oakmont,  can barely even notice the difference from fringe to green with the naked eye.

Best example I could find from kia,  enlarge and you can see just how miniscule the difference is from the green to the fringe. (could not view! locked out?)

BB..looked at your example's, not quite understanding your point! IRL golf vs WGT golf. putting from fringe?

I play quite RLG often, and putt from the fringe (not more than 2ft off green) 90% if I have a choice. But then again my "touch" chipping/soft lob shots SUCK. lol

    BolloxInBruges:
From those places where one may choose to hit a putt with 10 ft of power,  why should that not be an option?

Well, I know in most fringe putt cases, the caddy will default to the 90 value on the putting scale using the Rossi putter. I don't see any reason to change the value to equal the power and distance. I believe it's a matter of the lie, and more power is needed to strike the ball to get it out of the fringe lie.

    BolloxInBruges:
There are rare times that you are on a severe downslope (13 oak, back fringe)   or have a pin very close to the fringe, 13 kia, 17 oakmont, 10 BP back pin, etc.

In the case of the hole being close to the fringe, I would use at least a 30 value on the scale making sure I have enough power to get the ball rolling on the correct line. If you're on 13 at Oakmont, and you use a low putting scale value, ones most likely going to whiff the ball. That's a tough putt to get out of the fringe with little power in fear of whiffing the putt, or blowing it past the hole.

I'd like to hear what WGT has to say about fringe putting.

    Hi Richard,

I am on board with having to use a more powerful putt to get off the fringe, and have even noticed that this is exaggerated when you have more fringe to cover, and are further off of the green.

What I am asking, and maybe I just read into your post too much, is whether there is a difference between a 12' putt on the 15' meter, and a 12' putt on the 30' meter. Your original post alluded to switching to a higher meter, and made it sound like this was a trick of the trade to fringe putting - but like I said, I might have read too much in to it.

As a hypothetical, if you had a 6' fringe putt that you calculate as needing 12' of power, do you use the 12' from the 15' scale, or is there an advantage of hitting it the same 12' of power form the 30' scale? ie; do you only use a larger scale when more power is needed than the default scale offers?

The latter is correct. As far as I know, the 15 value is the lowest default value, that's pushing the bear minimum, and may whiff.

Doesn't anyone notice the default value the caddy gives when a fringe putt occurs? There really isn't no need to change the value in this case, you just need to adjust for the speed, being there isn't much power, or meter needed.

Bollox, I don't see how it's not realistic, especially when the caddy defaults to the putting value needed. I mean sure, one can adjust their value if need be, just don't go to a value at, or below the power needed to get the ball to move. In this case, one could easily whiff the putt.

This is a tried and true method. I'm sure you've already tried it Bollox, and found the desired results you were looking for, undisputed of course.  lol!

All I'm saying is, if everyone would try using a higher putting value on fringe putts, it would end the whiff's once and for all, glitch or not.
